There are many ways in which a mantra may be chosen. Ideally, you can chant a mantra to which you simply feel drawn and naturally attracted. Having chosen your mantra, stay with it until you have had some experience of its power. Resist the temptation to change to another one, thinking perhaps you made the wrong choice. It is most difficult to be completely quiet because we seem to be forever in the company of all these imprints which the mind has stored and turns out at random. To face this, you can trick the mind into concentrating by a variety of techniques which vary the monotony without essentially changing the focus, by allowing the mind to be active within the framework of your chosen mantra. Initially changing the focus, by allowing the mind to be active within the framework of your chosen mantra. You can also speed up the tempo of your chanting, including a greater number of repetitions within the span of one breath. Then slow down the tempo, extending the name or syllabus. Vary the sound from loud, to very soft and gentle. This kind of variation can keep your mind interested while still being involved in the repetitions. After a while, you will find that you are repeating this all the time in your day/life, while you are doing something or not doing anything, the mantra becomes a part of you or you become a part of the mantra.
